Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a father or mother with a hid weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the dad or mum within the leg.

The varsity had early release and college students were released at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the guardian, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His damage was not severe.

The college district stated White was contained in the building, near the foyer space, and not within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials stated there was no menace made and the parent did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees had been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an space hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass school taking pictures, there have been 5 cases in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom said their minds immediately thought of the worst when they were notified.

No mother or father ever wants there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly capturing at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't assist however think the worst when they do.

"When I obtained the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing goes to happen.’ I used to be shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most times, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher obtained a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the constructing," he stated.

Guns are not allowed on college property, and fogeys FOX 4 spoke with said even when it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and clearly, statistically, it's unlikely to happen, however you by no means wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your youngsters?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve got twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington faculty and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a faculty shooting, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve obtained to run anyplace that’s protected and hide," she told her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell said something needs to be finished now. 

"They need to speak about it, they want to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t need to really go any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
